From 1 July 2010 in Finland internet is officially considered an essential service .
The parliament has in fact enshrined the right of every citizen to have a guaranteed minimum connection of one megabit per second in their residence or workplace .
From the Communications Authority's website states that the Finnish connection can be wired or wireless, and must be activated in a time and at a reasonable price.
Furthermore, the Government is committed to raising the minimum bandwidth of one to one hundred megabits per second by 2015.
In an interview with the BBC Minister of Communications, Suvi Linden said that this decision was taken "in assessing the importance Internet in everyday life of Finns: no longer just a means of entertainment.
